Forum Post: RE: Classic to Role Tailored Client FAQ ?

After some month of developing I am finally finished and NAV 2013 is running. So I would like to give a final conclusion on the whole process!

The layout in NAV 2013 is much better, but still there are plenty of limitation which destroy almost all creativity in layouting a readable page.

For example:

9 usable fixed Styles. Fixed Font/Size.

GridLayout makes things better, but still there are limitations to the number of columns, the width of text boxes is uncontrolable. So much space is wasted... no visible anchors for the eye in the layout.

I now make extensive use of the controladdin interface, but now I am afraid of every update ;)

Some serious bugs are hanging around since the first RTC (subpage SETSELECTIONFILTER not working, for example)

GUI performance is very poor, compared to classic client.

RDLC layouting really is a PITA for a newbie! but, and some limitations are hard to explain to upstairs/management... I guess the old report designer was not much easier in the beginning, but not that hard! (AFAIK there really is no way to do subtotals on a page break, for example. or align the totals to the bottom of the last page)

Well, I found the WebService is very useful. The new debugger is nice, although its consuming a licence...

Usage of DotNet is much faster than the old automation objects. I guess because automation objects are now client based only and since the service tier is remote there are biiig latency issues. I measured a few ms for a simple call! DotNet on the other hand is really fast!

I would wish there would be a way to use a smaller font in the pages, and a little more control over the layout... but all in all its usable.

There really should be a NAV 2013 Tips & Tricks manual somewhere.... ;)
