Mandatory dimensions sounded nice in their presentations, but the reality is that they aren't really mandatory for all transactions in NAV, especially when you get away from the financial modules and into production.
Also, we use Corporation and LOCATION along with Department as identifiers for transactions, and again, expecially in production, surprisingly, DEPARTMENT information can be lost, not required, nevermind that within a corporation, which may include multiple LOCATIONS, the location dimension can't be tracked because NAV only has 2 Global dimensions available. Using one for Corporation and one for Department leaves us 1 dimension short.
The people who sold us the software were told repeatedly of our structure, not only before, but during their aborted attempt at installation, which turned into "let's not talk about that, let's talk about this totally unrelated, and unnecessary to your operation function..."
What really burns me is that even if the Dimensions WORKED, they aren't always available for export to Excel as part of the allowable export field list.
