Forum Post: RE: Compile report again and again?
An object must be compiled before it can be used in the platform. Obviously, a compiled object must not be recompiled again if you don't have modified it. If in a form (or page) you have a function that calls a not compiled object, you receive an error.

Blog Post: Dynamics 365 Business Central on-premise: licensing changes
As you already know, today Microsoft has officially launched the general availability of Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central on-premise . This release introduces also an important change regarding licensing. As usual, we have two main licensing types: Perpetual Licensing : you license the software with permanent usage rights. Subscription Licensing : you license non-perpetual rights to use the software, meaning you can use the software only during the term of the agreement secured by periodic payments. The news is that Dynamics 365 Business Central on-premises offers two types of access licenses for internal users: Named Client Access Licenses (CALs), only available under the Perpetual Licensing model, and User Subscription Access Licenses (SALs), only available under the Subscription Licensing model. Named CALs are assigned on a “named user” basis, meaning each user requires a separate User License; Named user licenses cannot be shared but an individual with a named user license may access the service through multiple devices. What does it mean? That you don’t have to pay any more for concurrent users like in Dynamics NAV. Your customer has N users that needs to access Dynamics 365 Business Central? Now you pay for N users (they must be named licensed in the application). More easy to predict how many licenses you need (and aligned with the cloud version), but maybe not always the best choice for some scenarios… External Users does not need CALs (and they cannot use any clients provided by the Dynamics 365 Business Central platform). More informations on the official Licensing Guide .

Blog Post: How to Gracefully Replace Legacy E-Commerce Software
Five years ago, I was explaining to prospects what B2B e-commerce was and how they could open a web store. Today, prospects are coming to me and asking how they can make B2B e-commerce a strategic pillar in their company so they can roll out their digital transformation in one year. The world of technology moves fast. So how does a modern software company ensure they’re offering customers a continuous value stream? How do you ensure your product offers the flexibility and agility businesses need to keep up with the latest developments? These questions have always been at the forefront of our business model, and they’re a big part of what prompted us to develop our on-premise software into a SaaS product. Difficulties With Upgrading On-Premise Software I’ll be honest: upgrading heavily customized on-premise software isn’t a walk in the park. First, you have to investigate what’s been added to the on-premise software since the last time you upgraded. Do you need these features? Do they replace any customization's you’ve paid for? What’s standard, and what’s not? If there’s a gap, how can it be added to the new platform? Upgrading customized on-premise software is time-consuming for the customer because it’s like rebuilding a whole platform. Then there’s the bill. These kinds of upgrades often need to be done manually, and hours translate into dollars. Add to that any customization's you might need to have built or rebuilt, and you’re quickly looking at spending 50% of the invested budget on an upgrade. Will it pay off? It’s a risk you take every time. Is SaaS the Solution? We’re the kind of business that likes to solve problems. Ten years ago we saw business after business struggling with siloed software systems, and we knew there must be a way to streamline the way these systems worked together. That’s when we developed a solution to integrate e-commerce software with ERP software . Problem solved. Today, there’s another problem: businesses are struggling with legacy technology and costly on-premise upgrades. This time, the solution is simple: Software as a Service is the solution, and it’s a really good one. Here’s why: SaaS is Extensible It’s important for e-commerce software (and really any software, for that matter) to be customizable. That’s why we’ve built Sana SaaS with extension points in the most used areas — payment, shipping, content and design. This works via a free add-on store where we’ve added dozens of add-ons that you can use to customize your software. You select the add-ons you like, then simply click and install them. Before, these kinds of customization's needed to be requested from our support team, so this is a big step in the right direction for a more scalable solution — both for our customers and our business. Besides being much more convenient than weeks of expensive customization's, it also means you don’t have to include the web store features you don’t need in your software. This translates to a lighter software package that will perform optimally now and in the future. If you need something specific that isn’t offered in the add-on store, then you can always have a custom add-on built. This is different than a traditional customization because it’s backwards compatible. If one of our standard payment provider options don’t fit the bill for your business, for instance, you can have a custom payment provider add-on created for that. And you can take that add-on with you as your software upgrades in the future. SaaS Costs Less Quicker time-to-launch and less custom work translates to less money being spent on a software solution. You have a monthly fee that includes the software and any consultancy you might need, and that’s it. No hidden costs, and no more spending half of your annual e-commerce budget on an upgrade you sorely need in to order to grow your business. Transitioning From On-premise Software to SaaS We currently have a handful of enthusiastic early adopters using Sana SaaS. Interestingly, many of them actually have IT departments requiring the company to transition all of their software to SaaS. In fact, 73% of organizations say nearly all their apps will be on SaaS by 2020 . These are the businesses that are truly at the forefront of the next phase in digital transformation, and it will be exciting to see the benefits they reap from being amongst the first to transition. When it comes to the Sana SaaS road-map, we of course want all of our customers to benefit from these features — but the reality is that not everyone is in the position to do it right now. That’s why we’ve launched an upgrade program to start transitioning everyone at the right time. If you’re a current Sana customer who isn’t sure about SaaS, don’t worry. We’ll keep developing our on-premise software so you can continue to enjoy the latest technology whenever your business is ready to upgrade. SaaS makes a very strong business case, though, and we’re confident we’ll get everyone up and running on Sana SaaS when the time is right. Are you not using Sana yet, but interested in a SaaS e-commerce solution? Get in touch to discuss your situation with an e-commerce consultant and see how SaaS can benefit your business. How You Can Prepare for Sana SaaS If you’re a current customer, it’s important to have a chat with your customer success manager so you can choose the best solution (on-premise of SaaS) for your business needs. If you’re not sure about SaaS but want to give it a try, we can also create trial versions. Want to learn more about our upcoming SaaS launch? Read all about it!

Forum Post: Convert Quote to Order
I am familiar with the functionality of the Quote-to-Order process. However, we have two different sales units within our company. Parts, and Service. I have a separate "Order" numbering series set up for both of the units (s-ord-prt, and s-ord-srv). When I want to create an order directly (not quote to order) I can click on the ellipses and a selection window opens that allows me to select what numbering series to use for that order. I want the employees to begin using the quote functionality because we currently use Excel for doing quotes and I want to stop duplication work. However, when I put in a quote and I want to convert it to an order, NAV only makes use of the parts number series. I want to be able to be able to select the number series based upon the type of quote. I DO NOT want to disable the automatic numbering series for the orders. How can this be accomplished?

Forum Post: RE: Convert Quote to Order
You need to setup the number series for the Quote document. They must be different for business unit and not automatically assigned. If so, the user can select them as per your needs.

If we're talking to standard NAV, you cannot change costing method. You need to create a different article (code) with the new costing method.

I've not understood the question, sorry. You can create a flowfield on the header table with the CalcFormula = what you have written (sum(YourLineTable.amount) where YourLineTable."Document No" = "No".)

Blog Post: Pricing and Advanced Features for Dynamics 365 Business Central (Day 2 Directions NA)
Directions North America Day 2 has kicked in with information on pricing for on-premise version and new feature announcement, let’s summarize: Pricing There is no changes in pricing for D365BC cloud licenses. Partners still get 40% discount for Dynamics NAV customers migration to D365BC cloud from on-prem. Those customers have to be from prior 2016 October. The transition discount has been extended to June 30 th , 2021. On-premise perpetual recommended pricing model changed. First of all, concurrent users are not there anymore. Named users are what is to be sold now, which means that licensing will be done per a specific named individual who could have many devices. The perpetual named Essentials user is 2,000 USD + BREP for maintenance, the Premium user is 2,800 USD + BREP, team member – 400 USD + BREP, objects price does not change. On-premise subscription type price rises to 45 USD per Essentials user, 65 USD Premium user and 8 USD for team members. Existing subscription user prices will rise to the same level on October 1 st , 2019. NAV 2018 Sales Stop Jan 1 st Yes, from January 1 st , 2019, you are only able to sell D365BC for your customers. No new Dynamics NAV sales. More on Roadmap Year’s 2019 main goal – further improvement for VS Code and AL and C/AL to AL conversion. As reconfirmed in Q&A session today, that is the main priority above new product features, so don’t expect much improvement in the functional areas in the upcoming year. From Year 2020 – VS Code and AL will be the only way to modify the application. Yep, that’s the official date for removing C/AL . At least for now… Event recorder A handy new feature to run while performing actions, i.e. while going through a sales invoice lines and inputing information. The event recorder would then show what events were triggered performing those actions. You can filter and easily find the events you need. This would save you tons of time you would otherwise be using to locate the events in objects. Certification for D365BC Yes, certification is back and you can start building up your competencies in the new product for your consultants and developers. Continuous Upgrade Window Dynamics 365 Business Central Cloud version is continuously upgraded: every month a new CU and every 6 months a major release. For those upgrades you can set up a window of 6 hours (i.e. 1 a.m. to 7 a.m.) during which Microsoft could perform the upgrade. Telemetry for User Activity D365BC admin center will now include insights on user activity, providing partners statistics on user behavior. Sandbox Environment in a Few Clicks The D365BC admin center will now allow to copy production data to a sandbox environment in a few minutes so that Partners could debug customer solutions using real data and not mess anything on production database at the same time. The debugger is now also available against the Business Central application code itself. Read more on roadmap and new features on Day 1 at Directions North America here . Forum Post: Dynamics 365 Field Service integration with Dynamics Nav 2018 Service Management
Hi I'm a Dynamics 365 consultant with limited knowledge of NAV. Can anybody point me to document that explains the optimal method to integrate Dynamics 365 Field Service with Dynamics Nav 2018. Do the Service Management , Service Order Management and Service Item Management modules need to installed in NAV if I want to use Dynamics 365 Field Service ? Alternatively, can the connector be configured so Dynamics 365 Field Service is not used and all Service Management tasks are carried out in NAV. In that scenario what is required to correctly configure the account , order and invoice integration correctly so Lead and Opportunity management in Dynamics 365 can send orders to NAV ?
